A superfood powerhouse in the kitchen and an essential ingredient – garlic, alongside onions, form the basis of many dishes. Chopped or crushed and fried – add to stews, soups, sauces, stir fry or simply use raw for its medicinal properties.

It has been highly valued as a culinary spice through out the ages and its usage predates written history. It has been used as a remedy by the ancient Egyptians and was used during WWI to treat wounds due to its anti-septic properties.

Best kept at room temperature, uncovered in a cool, dark place away from exposure to heat and sunlight. Storing it this way will help prevent sprouting. Can stay keep fresh from 2 weeks to 2 months.

Garlic is an excellent source of vitamin B6. It is also a very good source of manganese, selenium and vitamin C. In addition, garlic is a good source of other minerals, including phosphorous, calcium, potassium, iron and copper. The therapeutic effects of garlic are thought to be due to its active ingredient allicin, which is further stimulated when chopped or crushed. Garlic has a long history of use as an infection fighter – against viruses, bacteria and fungi, has the potential to reduce heart disease, cholesterol levels and cancer. Most potent when eaten raw.
