Organic Yellow Onions

A staple of so many dishes, what would we do without this vegetable powerhouse! The onion adds so much flavour to everything it touches. Add to soups, casseroles, stews or thinly slice and add to salads.

Eating onions raw increases the health benefits. However, this is not to everyone cup of tea. Try baking onions in their skins, in a similar way to baked potatoes. This method of cooking keeps all the goodness inside, but the resulting flavour is milder and more aromatic than that of raw onions.

Wash before eating.

* Like us, not all fruit or vegetables are perfectly formed and are not uniform in size. We don’t believe in discriminating against misshapen carrots or imperfect potatoes and in fact, love them for their flaws. A less than round apple is still as tasty as their perfectly formed cousins. Taste is what we believe in, because it’s what’s inside that counts. Unless your produce is clearly defective, please accept them as Nature intended.

Storage info

Best kept in a cool and dry place with some ventilation. Not a great storage partner with potatoes, as they prefer a more humid environment. However, on the plate, they compliment each other perfectly!

Health benefits

The onion contains natural sugar, vitamins A, B6, C and E, minerals such as sodium, potassium, iron and dietary fibre. They are a good source of folic acid. The phytochemicals in onions along with their vitamin C help improve immunity. Onions contain chromium, which assists in regulating blood sugar. For centuries, onions have been used to reduce inflammation and heal infections. Raw onions can lower the production of bad cholesterol and the compound quercetin is known to play a role in preventing cancer. They also prevent the risk of developing gastric ulcers by scavenging free radicals.
