Organic Tumeric

Tumeric is the spice in curry that gives it a yellow colour and has been used for thousands of years in cooking and as a medicinal spice. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric and it’s a good idea to consume alongside black pepper, which helps the body absorb this important compound which has many health benefits.

Turmeric root is surprisingly versatile: it can be used to add yellow color or orange and mild flavor to a broad range of dishes including smoothies, soups, rice dishes, omelettes, and more.

Health benefits

Tumeric has a range of health promoting benefits due to curcumin, the yellow pigment. It is used in the treatment of numerous inflammatory conditions for its anti-inflammatory effects. Curcumin is thought to slow down the inflammatory pathway. The anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of curcumin may help to reverse some of the steps in the heart disease process – regulating blood pressure, blood clotting and various other heart disease factors.
Another active ingredient in turmeric, turmerone, may help with cognitive function.
Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties have been compared to those of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and in trials it is found it to be more effective than a placebo for relieving pain and swelling in people with osteo and rheumatoid arthritis.
